Agates from British Columbia field trips.

Member Rock and Gem Clubs

The British Columbia Lapidary Society is an umbrella organization of 31 community clubs accross the province. Below is a list of our member clubs and their respective contact information. If you are interested in rocks, gems, minerals, and the earth sciences, consider joining your local club. Most clubs host monthly meetings and annual rock and gem shows.

Clubs not in the Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley are grouped into four different Zones, including the Vancouver Island Zone, Kootenay Zone, Interior Zone, and Northern Zone. Clubs in a Zone often pool their memberships and work together on hosting rock related events in their region. Zones are typically managed by an appointed representative.

Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley

The Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley is composed of 9 clubs. Have a look below to find the club nearest to your community.

Abbotsford Rock & Gem Club

The Abbotsford Rock & Gem Club was originally known as the M.S.A. Rock & Lapidary Club, which was formed on April 9, 1979. The club was originally formed to promote rockhounding and lapidary to seniors. The Abbotsford Rock & Gem Club became a member of the Gem & Mineral Federation of Canada in January 1998 and a Chartered Member Club of The Lapidary Rock & Mineral Society of British Columbia on May 17, 1998. The Club continues to host field trips and inspire its members to develop their lapidary, metal work and field research. Many club members have expertise in lapidary, silversmithing, lost wax, gemstone faceting & cabochons, beading, carving and precious metal clay. The club is working on securing a workshop for its members. For more information visit our website.

Port Moody Rock & Gem Club

Founded in 1967, our club hosts a lapidary workshop at Kyle Centre in addition to a number of annual events, including our rock and gem show, summer BBQ, and Christmas Potluck. We meet most months to conduct regular business and enjoy a presentation or special program. We are a creative bunch, and like to focus on the educational side of the earth sciences. In 2017 we spearheaded the 150 Rocks project in recognition of Canada 150, which included a special display of 150 rocks from across the country, and a partner laminated brochure.

Victoria Lapidary & Mineral Society

We welcome anyone to our club with an interest or hobby in rocks, minerals, crystals, lapidary arts or earth sciences. Our membership consists of approximately 100 individuals from all walks of life ranging in age from eight years old to seasoned veteran. We have a rock shop. Field trips are planned and attempted (weather permitting) on a monthly basis and we are progressing towards doing combined trips with other local rock clubs. We have been active with elementary schools for education on rock identification and other geological 'interesting stuff'. We teach silversmithing, wire wrapping, cabochons, Precious Metal Clay and Opal cutting. Mid March we hold our annual 'Rock and Gem Show' which is very successful. The club holds an auction every year of used equipment and lapidary material, and for other months, at the end of our club meeting, a program is provided.
